Eel River Dundee man pleads guilty to killing common-law wife

Lawyers are suggesting a 15-year sentence for an Eel River Dundee man charged with killing his common-law wife last summer.

Gilles Moreau pleaded guilty to a charge of second-degree murder on Monday after a first-degree murder charge was withdrawn.

Moreau admitted to stabbing 54-year-old Bridget Pelletier at their Splude Street residence in July of 2018 then burning her remains along with some personal effects.

He told the court he was depressed at the time of the killing and that he had begun drinking following 18 years of sobriety.

A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for June 3rd.
