Eel River Dundee man sentenced to life behind bars in death of common law wife

An Eel River Dundee man has been sentenced to life behind bars with no possibility of parole for 15 years in the death of his common law wife last summer.

Gilles Moreau pleaded guilty to a single charge of second-degree murder in April in the death of 54-year-old Brigitte Pelletier.

The court heard Moreau had stabbed Pelletier several times in June of 2018 before trying to dispose of her body in a backyard fireplace.

In addition to time behind bars, Moreau received a lifetime ban on owning firearms, is ordered to provide a sample of DNA and is prohibited from contacting members of the victim's family.
