Eight people displaced after fire at Moncton apartment building

The Canadian Red Cross says eight people have been displaced by a fire at an apartment building in downtown Moncton Monday morning.

The fire was reported around 6:30 a.m. and extensiveley damaged the two-story building that contained several apartments.

The aid agency says its disaster volunteers are assisting a woman, man and three children from one unit with emergency loding, food, clothing purchases and other basics.

The woman received minor burns while escaping the building.

The Canadian Red Cross says the tenants of the other apartments were either not home at the time of the fire or had left the scene before volunteers had arrived.

Those tenants will be offered similar help if it is needed.
