Electric vehicle charging stations generating little cash for NB Power

Electric vehicle charging stations installed around the province haven't been generating much cash for NB Power.

It's estimated there are 88 charging stations in New Brunswick, including Bathurst and Tracadie, about one for every electric car in the province.

But CBC reports only $1 worth of electricity was sold to three electric vehicles at one of the Bathurst charging sites in December, with even less sold at other centres in the province.

Tracadie's charging station only had one customer in December.

The utility, along with the provincial and federal governments announced in January that $1.4 million would be spent on installing an additional 18 chargers, mostly for rural areas.

The charging stations have been budgeted as a loss until 2028.
