Environment groups say oil industry asks will lead to 'climate chaos'
More than half a dozen environmental organizations have issued a joint statement urging political parties to reject a list of election demands from Canada's oil industry, saying to do so would lead to ``climate chaos.''
Earlier this week, the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers issued a list of things it would like to see from federal parties in the fall campaign to help increase production of Canadian fossil fuels.
They include displacing foreign imports with Canadian fuels and ramping up production and building pipelines so Canada can export more.
Environmental Defence's national program manager Dale Marshall says the world needs to retire fossil fuels to stop global warming, not produce more and that investing in clean and renewable energy that can be exported will result in the same economic benefits.
