"F" grade for Canada on seafood labelling standards

(CP) - A report card from environmental groups puts Canada behind the U-S and Europe when it comes to seafood labelling standards.

The coalition of environmental groups, referred to as SeaChoice, says Canada gets an F grade due to the lack of details on its labels, compared to American and European standards.

Colleen Turlo of the Halifax-based Ecology Action Centre says seafood labels should list the species' scientific name, along with where and how it was caught.

She says inadequate seafood labelling means consumers don't have the health and environmental information they should have about the products.
