Federal Court judge certifies class action sexual-harassment lawsuit against RCMP

(CP) - A Federal Court judge has certified a class action sexual-harassment lawsuit against the R-C-M-P, paving the way for the court to move forward on a settlement reached in May between the federal government and the women.

The judge said there could be as many as 20-thousand women who qualify as primary class members, though individual claims will be assessed.

The tentative deal creates six categories of claimants, with those who suffered the most egregious abuse eligible for up to 220-thousand dollars.
