Federal Labour Minister appoints mediators to assist in Canada Post contract talks
Federal Labour Minister Patty Hajdu has appointed mediators to assist Canada Post and its biggest union in their contract negotiations.
Hajdu wants Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers to continue bargaining with the help of a third party after union members nationwide voted overwhelmingly in favour of strike action.
The two sides have been negotiating separate contracts for urban and rural employees since late last year without success.
If no agreements are reached by September 26th, there could be a strike or lockout.
