Federal Tory leadership hopeful would cut transfer payments to Atlantic Provinces
(CP) - Conservative leadership candidate Kevin O'Leary says the Atlantic provinces better not expect to continue receiving equalization payments in perpetuity if he becomes prime minister.
O'Leary tells the Charlottetown Guardian that the region relies too heavily on federal transfer payments for ``have-not'' provinces.
He says the only campaign promise he is making is to grow the country's economy by three per cent and he will penalize provinces that do anything to hinder that goal.
O'Leary will be in Prince Edward Island on Wednesday, March 22nd as part of his ongoing leadership campaign.
