Federally proposed changes putting squeeze on NB farmers, says Agricultural Alliance of NB
Farmers in the province say 'enough is enough' when it comes to government proposed changes to their industry.
Farmers are concerned about Federally proposed tax changes, the introduction of font-of-package labelling for food products, as well as financial and administrative burdens which the Agricultural Alliance of New Brunswick says are being brought on by a lack of consideration for science and proper consultations through the Canadian Food Guide Review.
Alliance president and Bathurst-area farmer Mike Bouma says the industry is being tested to its breaking point and that it can not operate while trying to remain competitive, grow operations, create employment, innovate and invest in businesses.
Bouma says concerns have been voiced to MP's but that the association feels they're not supporting the industry.
