Feds still unsure about how to tax recreational marijuana

(CP) - The Trudeau government has still not worked out how to tax recreational pot when it becomes legal, perhaps by summer of 2018, after legislation is tabled next month.

Finance Minister Bill Morneau says the focus has instead been on making sure weed stays out of the hands of children and criminals.

He tells The Canadian Press the issue around taxation, any of those issues, are very subsidiary.

The timing of legislation, expected the week of April 10th, has at least one critic suggesting the Liberal government is more interested in placating marijuana users.

Many pot smokers famously gather around the world each April 20th to light up and flout the law in jurisdictions where it's illegal.
Conservative health critic Colin Carrie says the tabling of any legislation is an arbitrary timeline.
