Feds under pressure to boost defense spending

(CP) - As Canada's military struggles to use the billions of federal dollars it receives each year more efficiently, the Trudeau Liberals are under pressure to boost defense spending.

An initiative was launched in 2013 to trim up to 1.2-billion dollars in waste that could be redirected back into training, maintenance and other frontline activities.

Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan says it's important to ensure defence dollars are wisely spent, but adds he won't force officials to do anything that will affect the military's ability to do its job.
