Firearms complaint leads to high-speed chase
The Bathurst Police Force says charges are pending after a firearm complaint at a local bar led to a high-speed chase.
Police were contacted around 10:35 p.m. by someone in the bar and located the suspect in a vehicle in the downtown area.
The vehicle sped away, with a chase ensuing on Main Street, Bridge Street, and Miramichi Avenue, before it headed northbound on Highway 11.
Police say the driver lost control at the King Avenue exit and the vehicle rolled multiple times, but the suspect regained control and got back on the highway, heading east, continuing towards the Janeville area before abandoning the vehicle.
The driver managed to escape on foot in a nearby wooded area, and was apprehended with the help of the BNPP and RCMP.
A search of the vehicle yielded a long firearm and edge weapons.
The suspect was transported to Chaleur Regional Hospital with minor injuries and remains in police custody.
