Fishermen protest closure of fishing zones in Gulf of St. Lawrence

Several angry fishermen tossed dozens of empty lobster traps, in protest, in front of the constituency office of Acadie-Bathurst MP Serge Cormier on Thursday morning.

The fishermen are upset by the the recent closure of several fishing zones aimed at protecting endangered North Atlantic right whales in the Gulf of St. Lawrence.

Cormier says Ottawa is listening and is trying to save an industry.

He says if Canada doesn't demonstrate it's doing everything possible to protect the whales, it risks losing access to American and international markets for fish and other seafood products.
