Former Prime Minister predicts rough negotiations for NAFTA talks

(CP) - One of the architects of the North American Free Trade Agreement says he doesn't believe Canada will throw Mexico under the bus when the deal is renegotiated.

Former prime minister Brian Mulroney predicts there will be ``rough negotiations'' to amend the deal as demanded by the Trump administration in the U-S.

But he says he believes Canada will nonetheless emerge with strong ties to the U-S and Mexico.

Mulroney also told the Canadian Council for the Americas today that he felt Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had advanced Canada's case during his meeting with U-S President Donald Trump last week.
