Four adults displaced by fire in Wheaton Settlement

The Canadian Red Cross says four adults escaped unhurt from an overnight fire in the rural community of Wheaton Settlement.

The aid agency says volunteer fire departments from Petitcodiac, Salisbury and Haveloc responded to the fire at a house at 520 Wheaton Settlement Road around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The fire extensively damaged the split-level house and the couple and two sons in their 20s - one of whom is visiting from out of province - are staying nearby with another family member while they await for a damage appraisal by insurers.

Red Cross volunteers have assisted with emergency purchases of winter clothing, food, blankets and other basics.

Wheaton Settlement is about 20 km west of Moncton.
