Fredericton's only female councillor says she feels shut out when trying to incite change

The only woman on Fredericton city council says she feels shut out when trying to incite change.

Kate Rogers says she's feeling less and less a part of the team, and greater gender diversity is needed in the city's decision-making.

She says not enough women are being chosen to serve on various committees, and male councillors just roll their eyes when she raises the issue.

Rogers says she sees greater gender parity on the boards of non-profit agencies and charities in Fredericton and believes the same needs to occur within city hall.

Mayor Mike O'Brien did not immediately respond to a request for comment, but Rogers says the mayor has told her that more women need to run for council.

The next council elections will be held in 2020, but Rogers said she has not decided if she will seek re-election.
