Grade 9 ESN students give Bathurst council a lesson on urban planning
Bathurst's mayor and council got a lesson on urban planning Monday night from a Grade 9 geography class at ESN.
The presentations touched on things like green spaces, community gardens, arts and culture, as well as activities for youth.
Deputy Mayor Lee Stever says there were several good ideas presented and council could work with the young people to put some of their ideas in place.
Teacher Robin LeBlanc says the project aims to get students involved in municipal planning by gathering statistics, presenting their ideas, and listening to the feedback of others.
LeBlanc says it also serves as a lesson on how to convince people on the merits of their project.
He says he loves to see learning take place beyond the four walls of the class room.
LeBlanc has been doing this project with his classes for the past four years.
