Greater Bathurst Chamber of Commerce votes to change name to 'Chaleur Chamber of Commerce'

The Greater Bathurst Chamber of Commerce has voted to change its name in an effort to be more inclusive or surrounding communities.

At a special meeting on Thursday, members voted to change the name to 'The Chaleur Chamber of Commerce'.

Chamber president Bob Lennon expects the name change will mean more businesses from outside the city will become members, which he says will allow the Chamber to organize more activities and events, and result in being able to do more for the business community.

The motion did not unanimously pass though.

Lennon says just a handful of members voted against the motion over concerns of losing the identity of the name 'Bathurst'.

Lennon says the change of name is effective immediately.
