Help is available for disaster financial assistance claims

The Department of Public Safety says satellite and temporary pop-up offices are opening in flood-affected regions to assist people with their disaster financial assistance claims.

According to a press release, the New Brunswick Emergency Measures Organization (NBEMO) has satellite offices in four locations, and in addition one pop-up office opened this week, with three more following next week.

NBEMO Director Greg MacCallum says, "We want to provide as much assistance as possible for residents as they begin to file their disaster financial assistance claims."

Satellite offices are open at the following locations from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday to Friday and from 9:00 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.
- Saint John - 15 King Square North (506-658-4651)
- Hampton - 410 William Bell Dr., Unit 1 (506-832-6018)
- Fredericton - Service New Brunswick building, 432 Queen St. (506-457-6780)
- Burton - Burton courthouse, 23 Rte. 102 (506-357-4615)

The province says temporary pop-up offices will be open at the following locations from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. daily with more dates possible based on demand:
- May 8-10: Maugerville Community Centre
- May 13-14: River Valley Community Centre, Grand Bay-Westfield
- May 14-15: Jemseg Lions Club
- May 15: Q-Plex Quispamsis

Claims officers are at these locations to help with applications and to answer questions about the recovery process.

Residents affected by flooding are reminded to register their damages for 2019, even if they reported damages in 2018, so they can receive a Disaster Financial Assistance application package to determine eligibility for assistance, as well as a visit from a health and safety inspection team to determine whether their home or business is safe.

The Department of Public Safety says health and safety inspections must be conducted in order to have power reconnected and to be considered for Disaster Financial Assistance and advance payments.

People may register their damages with Service New Brunswick online or call 1-888-298-8555.
