House of Commons passes motion condemning Islamophobia

(CP) - Liberals and Conservatives had accused each other of playing politics with the rising tide of prejudice and hate crimes facing Canadian Muslims.

But, in the end, the House of Commons passed the motion from a Liberal backbencher calling on federal politicians to condemn Islamophobia.

The motion, known as M-103, was adopted by a margin of 201-to-91.

Its sponsor Liberal M-P Iqra Khalid got loud applause as she stood to vote.
