Humane Canada: Shelter workers experiencing compassion fatigue, emotional exhaustion

An animal welfare group says people who work to save animals with the SPCA are themselves suffering.

Humane Canada says staff at shelters are experiencing compassion fatigue and emotional exhaustion.

Staff at the SPCA shelter in Moncton, New Brunswick say they have felt symptoms of anxiety and depression as a result of working with animals at risk.

Humane Canada says the problem is being exacerbated by a lack of provincial and federal funding for shelters and animal control services right across the country.
