Immigration and Refugee Board hoping for more funds from Federal budget

(CP) - The Immigration and Refugee Board is hoping this month's federal budget will include some money to help with the growing number of asylum claims in Canada.

The rapid pace of the increase in new claims sees the board on track to receive 30-thousand this year, and chairman Mario Dion says there's no way it can deal with that many cases at current funding levels.

Dion says he's waiting on whether a plan he put before the immigration minister months ago makes its way into the budget.
