Inaugural Sled Dogs Bonefight kicks off in Atholville

The first ever Eastern Canadian Snowskate races kick off this weekend at Sugarloaf Provincial Park in Atholville.

The Sled Dogs Snowskate Bonefight is similar to CCNB's Crashed Ice event in Bathurst except racers fly down the track on snow-skates rather than ice-skates.

Members of CCNB's carpentry program built and installed the starting gate while those in the cabinetmaking and woodworking program produced trophies.

Students from the school's administration program took care of registration while a number of other students and staff are to volunteer at the inaugural event.

The competition is full with 50 entries and there is now a waiting list for competitors.

Austrians, Luca and Marco Dallago, two Red Bull Crashed Ice stars are favourites to win top honours among the men with strong performances expected from Samuel Nadeau(Moncton), Kevin Lagace(Campbellton), Nicholas Riopel(Rouyn-Noranda) and  Bruno Richard(Bedec).

Anaelle Poncet (Reims, France), Brittany Godin (Campbellton), Nicole Court (Ontario) and Marie-Pier Arsenault (Bonaventure, Quebec) are favourites among the female competitors.

Practice runs begin at noon on Saturday, March 18th with qualifiers taking place at 1pm.

The main event goes at 7pm.
