International Day of Mourning commemorates 25th anniversary of Westray Mine disaster

Citizens of the Chaleur region join the Bathurst Distric Labour Council today to mourn for the dead and fight for the living as part of the International Day of Mourning.

Council's John Gagnon says it's a day to reinforce our commitment to prevent injuries and make work places safer.

A ceremony and moment of silence will be held at noon on Douglas Ave. next to the Bathurst Heritage Museum.

This year's ceremony commemorates the 25th anniversary of the Westray Mine disaster -- where 26 miners lost their lives underground.
