Lack of high-speed internet a challenge for Belledune's efforts to grow, attract businesses
The Village of Belledune says a lack of high-speed Internet is making it difficult to attract new businesses and creating a challenge for existing businesses to expand.
Mayor Joe Noel says members of the community have been voicing their concerns over a lack of reliable Internet for several years and now council is looking to make it an election issue.
A letter sent to party leaders on behalf of the village says Belledune wants existing Internet infrastructure within the village upgraded and notes how residents in places like nearby Mitchell Settlement still rely on outdated dial-up for access to the World Wide Web.
Deputy Mayor Sandenn Killoran meanwhile, says its strange that Belledune is an economic engine, yet has some of the worst services in the northern part of the province.
