Lobster season delayed over safety concerns related to icy harbours
It will likely be next week before Lobster fishermen can get out on the water.
The season was supposed to get underway on April 30th but the Department of Fisheries and Oceans decided to delay the opening Wednesday because of safety concerns relating to ice in several harbours.
The situation will be re-evaluated Friday.
Pokeshaw fisherman Winston Coombs says he expects a smooth fishing season, but worries it could be complicated by federal measures aimed at protecting critically endangered North Atlantic right whales in the Gulf of St. Lawrence.
