Lockdown ordered at Atlantic Institution

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) says Atlantic Institution in Renous is in lockdown.

A release states the lockdown was implemented around 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday August 13 to allow staff to conduct an "exceptional search".

CSC says the search was ordered to ensure the safety and security of the institution, staff and inmates, though it is not clear what staff are searching for.

Regularly scheduled visits may be affected, and visitors who have already planned a visit are asked to contact the institution directly.

The Correctional Service of Canada says normal operations at the prison will resume as soon as it is deemed safe to do so.
