Man charged in connection with alleged robbery and assault in Moncton

Police say a 29-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with an alleged robbery and assault in Moncton.

Officers from the Codiac Regional RCMP responded to the parking lot of a car wash on Mapleton Road around 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Police say a man approached a vehicle with two people inside and asked for a cigarette.

RCMP say the man entered the vehicle, then produced a weapon and demanded money before an altercation erupted.

Police say one the occupants of the vehicle was injured in the altercation and was transported to hospital for treatment and was later released.

RCMP say following the assault, the suspect got into a waiting vehicle which fled the scene before being located on Essex Street a short time later.

Police say the three occupants of the vehicle were arrested with two later released and a 29-year-old man held in custody.

RCMP say Joshua Daniel Joseph Martin, of Moncton, appeared in Moncton Provincial Court on May 10 and was charged with robbery and assault with a weapon.

He has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to return to court in Moncton on May 15.

Police say the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
