Man charged with arson following fire in Coal Creek

Police say a Minto man has been charged with arson following a fire near Chipman.

Officers and the Chipman Fire Department responded to a call shortly after 6:00 p.m. on August 3 for a fire at a wood lot in Coal Creek.

RCMP say the fire appeared to be deliberately set.

A 28-year-old man was arrested at a residence in Minto on August 4 and was charged with arson and appeared in court on Tuesday for a bail hearing.

Police say the suspect was sent for a 30 day psychiatric evaluation and is scheduled to appear in court on September 6.

The investigation is continuing.
