Man dead following shooting incident at Miramichi Walmart

A man is dead after a  bizarre shooting  incident inside a Walmart store in Miramichi that also involved a high-speed police chase.

Police say 26-year-old man discharged a firearm inside the store late Wednesday afternoon.

Police said no one was hurt inside the store and by the time they arrived, the suspect had fled the scene in a vehicle.

Officers pursued the vehicle on Route 11 but police say the driver refused to stop.

Miramichi Police called on the Richibucto RCMP for help and they deployed a spike belt, which stopped the vehicle.

CTV News reports that officers heard a shot fired inside the car shortly after it came to a stop. The 26-year-old driver was injured and taken to hospital, where he later died as a result of his injuries.

The 41-year-old female passenger was taken into custody.

Wendy Gale Losier appeared in court yesterday facing a slew of charges.

She'll be back in court for a bail hearing this morning.

An autopsy will be conducted on the man who died in the vehicle.
