Man fined for illegal possession of Crown wood
A 63-year-old Saine-Anne de Madawaska man has been fined for the illegal possession of Crown wood.
The province says Gérald Thériault was fined $12,000 after pleading guilty to charges of illegal possession of timber from Crown land, while two other people were party to the offence.
Government says the fine is based on being in possession of Crown timber for the purpose of commercialization for financial gain.
The minimum fine for the theft of Crown wood is $1,000, but when the offence is connected to commercialization for financial gain, the minimum fine is $10,000.
The arrests followed an investigation in December 2016 by conservation officers from the Department of Justice and Public Safety.
Anyone with information regarding the theft of Crown wood is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers.
