Military watchdog calls on Ottawa to ensure ex-soldiers have necessary benefits

Canada's military watchdog suggests not enough is being done to help soldiers forced out for medical reasons to navigate their health needs.

Ombudsman Gary Walbourne says Ottawa should make sure injured military personnel have all the necessary benefits and supports in place before turning in their uniforms.

His comment, the same recommendation he made in the fall, came as news a military veteran was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in his northeastern Nova Scotia home on Tuesday, December 3rd, along with the bodies of his mother, wife and 10-year-old daughter.

Loved ones say the retired corporal suffered from P-T-S-D after serving in Afghanistan in 2007.(
