Miramichi Ave., Bridge St. priorities in Bathurst's 5 year provincially-designated road work plan

The City of Bathurst is making Bridge Street a priority as it submits its five-year plan for provincially designated road work to the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure.

The five year plan was approved at a special public meeting on Wednesday, October 11th.

Bridge Street will be the main focus from 2018 to 2020 followed by Miramichi Avenuue from 2021 to 2022.

The total cost of the work is estimated at $8,890,000.00 with the city's portion pegged at $4,266,900.00 which includes utility work in some areas.

2018 - Bridge Street

Civic address 1930 to Sutherland Avenue - Pulverize and Pave road

  • Road to be pulverized, soft spots undercut and backfilled;
  • Ditches and driveway culverts designed and rebuilt in order to stabilize the shoulders;
  • Road paving, 3.7-meter driving lanes with 1.5-meter milled asphalt shoulders.

2019 - Bridge Street

Sutherland Avenue to Bass River Bridge - Pulverize and Pave road

  • Road to be pulverized, soft spots undercut and backfilled;
  • Ditches and driveway culverts designed and rebuilt in order to stabilize the shoulders;
  • Road paving, 3.7-meter driving lanes with 1.5-meter milled asphalt shoulders.

2020 - Bridge Street

Bass River Bridge to City Limits - Pulverize and Pave road

  • Road to be pulverized, soft spots undercut and backfilled;
  • Ditches and driveway culverts designed and rebuilt in order to stabilize the shoulders;
  • Road paving, 3.7-meter driving lanes with 1.5-meter milled asphalt shoulders.

2021 - Miramichi Ave.

From Bridge Street to Mount Carmel Street - Full rebuild of road

  • The street would be reduced to 2 lanes as opposed to 4 as traffic volumes have significantly decreased in the last few years;
  • The City of Bathurst would renew its infrastructure (water / sewer);
  • NB Department of Transportation and Infrastructure would handle the drainage and road building.

2022 - Miramichi Ave.

Mount Carmel Street to Blanchard Avenue - Full rebuild of road

  • The street would be reduced to 2 lanes as opposed to 4 as traffic volumes have significantly decreased in the last few years;
  • The City of Bathurst would renew its infrastructure (water / sewer);
  • NB Department of Transportation and Infrastructure would handle the drainage and road building.

The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure still has to sign-off on the five-year plan.
