Moncton man arrested after seizure of illegal cigarettes and drugs

A 43-year-old Moncton man has been arrested after Riverview RCMP seized more than 60,000 contraband cigarettes and they say is believed to be crystal methamphetamine tablets.

Officers responded to a report of a single-vehicle accident near Petitcodiac just after 3:30 p.m. on Friday and arrived to find a vehicle in a ditch on Wheaton Settlement Road.

Police say they spotted what was believed to be contraband tobacco, and a search was conducted where they also found the other drugs.

The driver wasn't seriously injured and has been remanded into custody until a court appearance in Moncton.

RCMP have not said what charges the man faces.
