Municipalities and Community Planning Act could help Belledune attract more people and businesses

Belledune may be able to attract more jobs for its young people as well as new community members thanks to changes made to New Brunswick`s Municipalities and Community Planning Act earlier this week.

Mayor Joe Noel blamed his village`s shrinking population on a lack of job opportunities for youth when Statistics Canada released its latest Census figures last week.

Though Belledune council has yet to delve into the details, Noel believes the changes could allow the village more room to form partnerships for things like housing initiatives as well as attracting businesses and other start-ups.
