N.B. nurses call for beefed up security measures in hospitals
The New Brunswick Nurses Union is calling on the provincial government for increased security measures in hospitals.
Documents obtained by the union though Right-to-Information show 48 security guard positions were unfilled as of May 1st, and two thirds of security personnel don't feel they have enough resources.
Union president Paula Doucet says there's a crisis in workplace health and safety at New Brunswick hospitals and changes are needed right away.
Health Minister Hugh Flemming said violence against health-care workers is unacceptable and it is the responsibility of Regional Health Authorities to provide and maintain a safe hospital environment.
