N.B. People's Alliance calls for regionalization of nursing homes
New Brunswick's People's Alliance party wants the provincial government to consider the regionalization of nursing homes.
Partly leader Kris Austin says it would save money which could be used to provide font-line staff higher wages as well as recruit more workers.
Austin says there needs to be more staff on duty to provide proper care to seniors and that government must balance fiscal responsibility with the responsibility of caring for the province's most vulnerable citizens.
He says more nursing home workers will leave for greener pastures unless there is a wage increase which places seniors at risk of a deteriorating level of care.
Austin says a tentative agreement needs to be reached that will retain workers and allow the recruitment of those committed to the care of seniors living the province's nursing homes.
