NB RCMP & Surete du Quebec bust organized theft ring
16 people, including one New Brunswicker have been arrested following an investigation into an organized theft ring that targeted everything from luxury, cars, diapers and around a million dollars worth of Lobster stolen from Caraquet on Canada Day last year.
Wednesday's raid resulted in police recovering $3.2 million in goods from 22 New Brunswick, Quebec, and Ontario businesses.
Though the organization didn't have a name, Surete du Quebec's Lt. Martine Asselin says it was very active, sometimes carrying out several thefts in a week.
The accused range from 16 to 56 years of age and face conspiracy and theft-related charges relating to 78 criminal files.
A man from Memramcook, the sole New Brunswicker arrested, will be charged by New Brunswick RCMP while the remainder will face charges in Quebec.
