NB's Contraband Enforcement Unit kept nearly a million illegal cigarettes off the streets

Over 843,000 illegal cigarettes were seized by New Brunswick's Contraband Enforcement Unit since it hit the streets six months ago.

The unit was set up to disrupt the production, distribution and sale of illegal tobacco in the province.

The government says its nine-person team has conducted covert investigations and provided a uniformed presence throughout the province resulting in 17 seizures of illegal cigarettes in communities, including Miramichi, Bathurst, and Campbellton.
