NB's Premier denies health system is in crisis

Though New Brunswick's health-care system faces many challenges, Premier Brian Gallant rejects the idea that it's in "crisis".

This after a former president of the Canadian Medical Association told the Daily Gleaner the system is entering a long period of crisis.

Gallant says an aging population will likely aggravate challenges, but adds the government is acting swiftly and boldly to address them.

He says the budget for New Brunswick's health department has never been higher and that strategic investments are being made to reduce hospital wait times.

Gallant says more than $300 million has been earmarked for upgrades to hospitals, including the Chaleur Regional Hospital in Bathurst.
