NB Tories call for tax bill appeal deadline change following tax assessment mistakes
Provincial Tories are calling on the government to push back the looming deadline to challenge property assessments after Service New Brunswick sent out around 2,400 miscalculated property tax bills.
Service New Brunswick's Nichole Bowman says affected property owners will be advised by April 1st and should receive an amended tax bill by June 1st.
But those wishing to appeal their assessment only have until March 31st to do so.
The government says most property owners saw a reduction in their bill, a slight increase, or no change at all, with about five per cent seeing increases of ten per cent or more.
Human error is being blamed for the miscalculated bills.
