NBTA: New nutrition policy means fewer financial resources for New Brunswick teachers

The New Brunswick Teachers' Association says teachers will feel the financial pinch resulting from a new nutrition policy implemented in the province's school system.

Though most students only begin hitting the books next week, several schools have already cancelled fundraising activities like bake sales, cake walks, and pizza parties because the new policy bans food sold at such events.

Association president George Daley says his group is upset there was no consultation with teachers.

He says school supplies are not adequately funded by the provincial government and that teachers rely on fundraisers to make up the difference.

With less financial resources making their way into schools, Daley says 'the money has to come from somewhere'.
