Nearly 50 surgeries cancelled at Fredericton hospital following water leak

A hospital in Fredericton had to reschedule nearly 50 elective surgeries this week after water leaked into an operating room.

The water soaked through the floor and onto sterile supplies in the O-R at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Sunday afternoon.

C-T-V News says 20 surgeries were cancelled on Monday and another 27 yesterday because everything in the operating room had to be cleaned and disinfected, but the Horizon Health Network says operations will be back to normal today.

Fredericton-area M-L-A Jeff Carr says the previous government set aside money for renovations at the hospital three years ago, but the Liberal government put design work on hold until last year, with construction not expected to begin until 2018.
