New Brunswick yanks funding for 2021 Francophonie Games
The organizing committee for the 2021 Francophonie Games has had its funding pulled by the New Brunswick government.
The the cost to hold the games in Moncton and Dieppe ballooned from $17 million to nearly $130 million and the Higgs government had said it would not spend more than the $10 million it had committed.
The committee's final payment was received in December and the province says there are no more payments scheduled.
But committee's Tracey Suley says it's currently operating under approved provincial funding for the entire 2018-19 fiscal year.
Cancelling the games could cost the province millions of dollars.
