New Brunswickers reminded 10-digit local dialing coming next summer

A group of major Canadian telecommunications companies is reminding New Brunswickers that local 10-digit dialing will be introduced next summer.

The Telecommunications Alliance says residents will need to dial 10 digits for all local calls, the area code followed by the seven-digit phone number, starting August 13, 2020.

The move will pave the way for the CRTC to add a new area code to the province, 428, in November 2020 as the 506 area code reaches capacity.

Customers with the 506 area code will retain their numbers, and numbers with the new 428 area code will only be assigned when the existing inventory of 506 numbers is depleted.

Additional information is available on the Telecommunications Alliance website at dial10.ca.
