New building in the works for downtown Bathurst
A new development is planned for a downtown Bathurst property where one of city's oldest buildings stood until earlier this week.
Quattro Properties Inc. purchased the King Ave. property last December and on Monday tore down the former Brunswick Hotel to make way for a three-story building that's expected to feature retail and office space as well as loft apartments.
Co-owner Denis Roy tells the Northern Light the old building was just too far gone to save and that construction on the new development could begin in the spring of 2019, once lease agreements are secured.
Mayor Paolo Fongemie welcomes the new development and says there are also other projects planned for the downtown area by private developers.
He says a vibrant, strong city begins with the downtown core which will pave the way for the overall development of the city.
