New chief selected for Fredericton Police Force
A new police chief has been chosen for Fredericton.
Roger L. Brown is the former Commanding Officer and Assistant Commissioner with RCMP “J” Division and will take over June 11th, the day after current Fredericton Police Chief, Leanne Fitch retires.
Chief Fitch is stepping down after more than 3 decades of policing.
City council made the announcement of Brown's appointment Monday night.
Mayor Mike O'Brien says he's confident that Brown is bringing the right combination of skills and experience to the city and looks forward to working with him.
Brown has 36 years of policing experience with the Mounties across the country.
Most recently, speaking about the mental health issues facing first responders and the shift in leadership required to address the matter.
During his time as Commanding Officer, he lead the division during the fatal shootings of 3 Mounties in Moncton, shale gas demonstrations, and high profile mental health issues.
Brown says he's looking forward to working alongside the employees of the Fredericton Police Force, the city and citizens.
