New drone rules a "one-size-fits-all" solution, Bathurst photographer says

A Bathurst man is calling Transport Canada's new drone regulations a "one-size-fits-all" solution.

Recreational drone photographer Francois Foulem tells the Northern Light the new rules make sense for operators in larger cities with busy airports, but are too strict for smaller municipalities whose air traffic is significantly less.

Some of the new rules include drone weight restrictions, that they not fly higher than 90 metres or within 75 metres of people, animals, motor vehicles and buildings, or within 9km of the centre of an airport.

Transport Canada says the new rules come after drone incidents more than tripled since 2014 and that a partnership has been formed with the RCMP to enforce them.
