New Gaspe-area wind farm switched on
A new wind farm in the Gaspe area is now pumping electricity into Quebec's power grid.
The 150-megawatt "Big Winds" site in Escuminac North is able to provide electricity to the equivalent of approximately 30,000 households.
The construction of the wind farm, which began in May of 2015, employed 110 local workers at its peak and resulted in a number of First Nations people becoming certified in different trades.
The site will sell electricity to Hydro-Quebec under a 20 year agreement and will be operated by ten people -- half of which will be First Nations.
